Historic Wahconah Park is one of the oldest still active ballparks in the US, opening in 1919. It has one of the few remaining covered wooden grandstands.

In its long history, team names have included the Electrics, Hillies, Indians, Phillies, Red Sox, Senators, Rangers, Brewers, Cubs, Mets, Astros, Black Bears, Dukes, American Defenders, Colonials, and Suns.

Over 200 Pittsfield players went on to play in the major leagues (Sparky Lyle, Carlton Fisk, Greg Maddux, Rafael Palmeiro); and over 100 played in Pittsfield after having already played in the majors.

The Colonials were only there two years (2010-2011), having started in 1998 as the Nashua Pride and then the American Defenders of New Hampshire. The current team at the park is a Futures league (collegiate summer wood bat) team called the Pittsfield Suns.
